Answer the question
before you explain it.
Many search results now show an answer before they show a list of links. A featured snippet might quote a paragraph. A People Also Ask box lists related questions with short replies. A voice assistant reads out one sentence. An AI summary might combine a few sources. In each case, a page that states a clear answer early, in plain language, is easier to use.
That does not mean writing less. It means putting the direct answer where it can be found, then supporting it with the detail that makes it trustworthy. Readers who want more will keep reading, and readers who only needed the answer will have it.
What is answer engine optimization?
Answer engine optimization (AEO) is the practice of structuring content so search engines, voice assistants and AI tools can extract it as a direct answer. It targets featured snippets, People Also Ask boxes, voice results and the short summaries shown in AI search.
AEO works by matching the exact questions people ask, answering them clearly in the first sentence or two, then supporting the answer with detail, lists, tables and appropriate structured data. Whether a particular answer is shown is the search engine's decision, so the aim is to be eligible and clear, not to force inclusion.

What markup
can and cannot do.
FAQPage
Describes questions and answers on a page. Google now shows FAQ rich results for only a limited set of sites, but valid markup still describes the page clearly.
- Must match visible text
- Not a ranking promise
HowTo
Google no longer shows HowTo rich results, so we do not add it for that purpose. Clear numbered steps in the page text still help readers.
- Use numbered steps in content
- Skip markup that earns nothing
Article and others
Appropriate types for the content help systems classify pages. Markup supports clarity but never replaces useful content.
- Choose types that fit
- Validate before launch
Winning the answer box
versus winning the recommendation.
AEO is mainly about your own pages: how each question is answered and marked up. GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) is about being mentioned and recommended inside generated answers, which also depends on reviews and trusted third-party mentions. Many brands benefit from both, and both sit inside the wider AI Search Optimization programme.
The content work overlaps with SEO Content Strategy, which plans topics from search demand. AEO adds the discipline of formatting each page so the answer can be found and quoted.
Your AEO plan, fully covered.

Tools we use
AEO
questions.
AEO, or answer engine optimization, structures your content so search engines and AI tools can show it as a direct answer in featured snippets, People Also Ask, voice results and AI summaries.
AEO focuses on being the extracted answer to a specific question. GEO focuses on being mentioned and recommended inside AI-generated answers. Most brands benefit from both.
FAQ rich results are now shown for a limited set of sites, but clear question and answer structure with valid markup that matches the visible text still helps systems understand your content.
Some answers are read without a click, but being the source builds brand trust and often wins the click for deeper questions. We cannot predict the effect on any one query.
For pages that already rank well, structured rewrites can change snippet results within weeks, but nothing is guaranteed. Newer pages take longer because they need to rank first.
No. The same clear question and answer structure helps other search engines, voice assistants and AI tools, although each one decides for itself what to show.
